Victorian Muzzle Loading Club Awards and Prizes
For all regular competitions, Gold, Silver, and Bronze cards are awarded to the first-, second-, and third-highest scorers respectively. At the conclusion of the VMLC State Championships, held annually in November, Annual Aggregate Trophies are presented for the highest overall scores across all firearm classes.The VMLC also operates a Proficiency Award system, under which members who achieve predetermined scores are awarded Gold, Silver, or Bronze proficiency medallions.
Gold Proficiency Awards – Shotgun:
The first VMLC Gold Proficiency was achieved in February 1990 by Barry K, scoring 15 out of 15 birds with a muzzle-loading shotgun.
The second Gold Proficiency followed in April 2006, when Jim M also scored 15 out of 15 birds with a muzzle-loading shotgun.
Later in October 2006, Barry K became the first member to earn a second Gold Proficiency, this time with 15 out of 15 birds using a breech-loading black powder shotgun (shotgun and ammunition supplied by Jim M).
In February 2007, Noel H (aged 73 at the time, now deceased) became the third member to achieve a Gold Proficiency, again with 15 out of 15 birds using a muzzle-loading shotgun.
In March 2007, two Gold Proficiencies were awarded on the same day when Doug H and Jim M both scored 15 out of 15 birds with breech-loading shotguns. Doug became the fourth member to attain a Gold Proficiency, while Jim became the second member to achieve two Gold Proficiencies.
Gold Proficiency Awards – Rifle:
The first known Gold Proficiency for a discipline other than shotgun occurred in April 2014, when David W achieved a perfect 100 / 100 score in the 15-metre Muzzle Loading Rifle Turkey competition.
In August 2014, Craig K and Roger M both achieved 100 / 100 scores in the 25-metre Offhand Buffalo (Open Muzzle Loading Rifle) competition, earning Gold Proficiency awards.
Most recently, on 17 October 2015, George L became the fourth member to achieve a perfect 100 / 100 score in a muzzle-loading rifle event, specifically the 25-metre Offhand Snake (Open Muzzle Loading Rifle) competition.
